With this second release, the label continues its VA series, here expanding the Broken District territory to a wider sound spectrum by diving into Deep House sounds, as well as Nu Disco, and Instrumental Hip Hop.
The EP opens with Jus Jam & Momla, joining forces on “Pumpkin”, a dynamic House production inspired by the messy, smoky Jazz club atmosphere of the 30s, and featuring a live-recorded bassline as well as dirty samples of saxophone. You can smell the bayou on this one.
For the second track, Momla goes solo with “Huckleberry Dream”, a beautiful Deep House journey with a melancholic vibe and Soulful influences.
As per our first release, Marian Tone gives the final touch on the A-side, this time in collaboration with Duktus. Together they deliver a loose, funky Hip Hop ballad featuring a live-recorded saxophone that provides a nice jazzy vibe.
On the flipside, Jus Jam opens with “Naked Lunch”, a ‘Slow House’ track again influenced by the 90s Hip Hop scene… the kind of music to be enjoyed while driving on the Pacific coast during a hot Summer night.
Roller-disco time with “On The Mend” by Vienna-based artist Sam Irl. Here he provides us with a beautiful ode to the Filtered House era… with subtle Funk influences.
London artist System Olympia provides the perfect conclusion to this second EP with “Do You Need Anybody”, a melancholic journey influenced by early Electronic sounds from the 80s.
Welcome back to the Broken District.
