020 was supposed to be a year of joy in Malka Tuti, celebrating and commemorating 5 years of our existence. After several celebratory dates and many plans were postponed due to coco-19 and its collateral damage, we have understood that the universe is trying to tell us something, and we’ve read it as SLOW DOWN!
After months of contemplation and excessive thoughts, we have come to the inevitable conclusion that 7 is simply a better number then 5. Therefore we are now celebrating 7 years of existence.
To share our festive mood, we are releasing a 2XLP compilation filled with goodies supplied by our close friends, and their friends.
For us, the Sheva (Seven in Hebrew) compilation represents a large chunk ofthe sonic spectrum that is the Malka Tuti multiverse to date. Whether its Red Axes’s dance floor punk, the tribal minimalistic psychedelia of Decha, the endless soundscapes of Vactrol Park, or the post-pop attitude of Xen and Shari Vari, one can hopefully notice that gentle thread weaving itall together. That thread is Malka Tuti.
On the compilation you can find many unreleased remixes to tracks we’ve released on the label, from amazing artists such as Nicola Cruz, Phew, Khidja & Manfredas. Each Remix gives new life to our back catalogue’s feel.
In addition, Xen is also back on Malka Tuti with 2 new songs, Blue & Cats in collaboration with brother Yovav. Both songs were recorded in the winter of 2017 In Uhrwald Orange studios outside Düsseldorf, with comrade Sebastian Lee Philipp (of Die Wilde Jagd fame) on the mixing decks and engineering hat.In addition to his collaboration with Xen, You can find Yovav In ace form here, contributing a mid tempo discoish banger like only he knows how.. Even more fun comes from Vactrol Park, our dear modular brothers, showing off their deeper than deep sonic aesthetics and minimalistic groovy rhythms on Seemingly Strange. We are also thrilled to welcome a dear friend Benedikt Frey to the family. Expect some banging stuff from him in the future on MT.Last but definitely not least, Lithuanian superhero Manfredas is responsible for one of our favourite secret weapons of the last couple of years, an alternative remix to Shari Vari’s Dance Alone, never released before. This Remix is a trippy pop excursion to the sunnier side of things. All tracks on the compilation were meticulously chosen throughout the past few years and slowly stitched together to comprise what is now SHEVA.
From deep inside the inner workings of L3 Liverpool comes the latest instalment from the city’s very own, Aerofunk. An EP built through atmospheric melodies, break scattered percussion and the heavy sub-driven, relentlessly shifting basslines he is becoming renowned for. The EP opens itself out into true break-funk fashion with ‘The Definition III’, setting off via back-and-forth percussive movements with hints of hypnotising, atmospheric keys, that pave the way for one of his signature hard hitting, scattered basslines. Moving in an ever forward style, ‘Funky Breaky West’ cranks up the level for the A-Side. The repetitive bassline layered beneath a kick that skips itself in-and-out of various timings throughout the track, alongside staple, party worthy snare and hat crashes, guide the music on course before delightfully introducing an added touch of flavour with two competing basslines that work together perfectly, hand in hand. To the flip, there’s no time for pause, as ‘Zezwa’, a track built upon a differed style to its predecessors yet sugar coated in the unmistakeable A-F style, noticeably designates itself in a groove to make its listeners relentlessly move. Throughout and just in ear shot, riding their way throughout that background, is the unmissable sound of scurrying hats and cow bell strikes that seem to make spontaneous decisions for their choice of inclusion. The B-Side close out supplies an ending filled with a stripped back groove, plied by guided reverberating horn sounds that give off a sense of alarm aimed to draw a mind to the fullest attention. All the while, the music shifts itself on in true, groove driven funk fashion. The keys and atmospheric tones that work themselves in midway through the track are worthy of noting, as if to cultivate the way for that melody one could easily mistake to have been designed by the touch of a musical robotics lab.
R.I.O. welcomes Pieter Kock aka DJ Peacock, one of the guiding souls behind the Berlin based bar/micro club O Tannenbaum. Musically active since 1986 as singer, guitarist, drummer and noisemaker, Peter already released a string of albums under different aliases like Billie and Ballie, The Hitmachine and Taladu. Since the early 1990s he narrates haunting sonic stories as a DJ, playing a vast palette of styles - from cosmic and leftfield techno to tape experiments, sound-art, wave, world, jazz, punk, industrial, and all that weird pop music. Last year saw him liberating his first solo recordings under his civil name as a cassette tape named “Flocks & Murders of Entitled Spirits”, dropped by the Berlin/Vilnius based label Musikii. It unreels twelve sensitive tunes, made with the help of online synths and drum computers, Youtube travel- and talk show-videos or samples from Youtube synths- and rhythm box-demonstration videos. Now he refined his idiosyncratic style of music crafting a bit deeper and shares “Facial Recognition” – a gently twisted album that unites hypnagogic pop, library dances, cosmic funk, leftfield grooves and experimental sonic zones under one roof. His seven found sound tunes are layering a rhizomatic veil of unidentifiable web sounds, all transmuted into hazy looped ambiances, that trigger unconscious brain activities with future samples from the past, woven rhythm structures and a simultaneity of moments, derived from myriad world wide web informations. When it’s true, that nothing can have value without being an object of utility, then Pieter Kock managed to give the internet a new rate while using its manyfold informations as a tool to create art. Art, whose originality isn’t defined by the creator’s playful virtuosity. Instead, his sensibility of deciphering unheard rhythms, harmonies, and melodies in an avalanche of prefabricated ideas is his mastery. Pieter Kock transformed them into unfamiliar compositions with a familiar touch, that can evoke the feeling of being synchronous in a world of the many. A data rain without drops, a stream of consciousness without cognizance. Come in, drop out.
Four years after its launch, Pont Neuf Records, considered as “one of the most essential house labels of the hexagonal scene” by Mixmag, has gone on participating “in the revival of the genre” (Trax Magazine) by producing a major part of these young producers who now represent this hyperactive and vibrant scene. For its 4th anniversary, the Parisian label makes no exception to its rule with a new compilation Hexagonal Club, bringing together once again this new French house scene with varied influences, ranging from filtered disco-house to jungle influences, but also through percussive deep house sounds or more broken beat-oriented universes.
Salomo & Reece Walker start their new sublabel from R.A.N.D. Muzik Recordings with a collaborative EP of house groovers and freedom vibes.
